KUALA NERUS: A total of RM1.14mil in cash was stolen from two ATMs and three safe boxes at a hypermarket here Sunday.
State CID chief Asst Comm Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said a group of seven men, believed to be foreigners, carried out the robbery between 2.15am and 6.45am.
Four security guards on duty at the hypermarket were found tied up in the store room.
The robbers cut open the ATMs and the safe boxes with oxy-acetylene torches and other tools.
ACP Wan Abd Aziz said that according to the statement by the security officers, the robbers could be Vietnamese or Cambodians from the language they spoke to each other.
“We are also investigating whether insiders or former employees were involved in the robbery,” he said.
